James Baker receives Pendleton blanket from the Tribal Business Council

James Baker, 29, graduated from the Federal Indian Police Academy at Artesia, New Mexico and joined 12 other staff and officers with the Fish and Wildlife department.  He received a Pendleton blanket from the tribal business council at their Tuesday, December 22 meeting.

The police academy training in New Mexico is a 16-week integrated Basic Police Training Program, designed for U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and tribal law enforcement officers, provides instruction on Ethics and Conduct, Stress, Conflict Management, Narcotics, Collection and Preservation of Evidence, Officer Safety and Survival, Criminalistics, Civil Rights, Search and Seizure, Detention and Arrest, Indian County Law, and BIA specialized training.
