First tribal well best in the Bakken

By Dorreen Yellow Bird, Press Secretary

The well called “Simba 24-30H” could be the “best in the Bakken Formation,”  said Delvin Foote, founder and shareholder of Spotted Hawk Development (SHD).  The well is located some 20 miles south of Parshall.

At this stage, the well is being tested, but it’s too soon to say what the full potential for the well will be, but all indications are that it will be a very good well, said Foote.

“We are treating the well like a premature baby,” and proceeding slowly and carefully, said Foote.  It is the longest lateral well in North Dakota.   The well is doing so good it is “free flowing” without a pump.

The Three Affiliated Tribes receives a 22.5 percent royalty giving the tribe the largest royalty on the reservation.

Simba 24-30H drains oil and gas from a 1,280 acre spacing unit within the Deepwater Creek Bay oil field under Lake Sakakawea.

Foote lives about two miles south of the well on the site where his grandmother moved after the flood.  Also located in an area were the Amelia Bear, George Foote and Elsie White Body families.  The area is now mostly abandoned and the old houses stand as reminders of the past.

Demarco Bell is the executive president of SHD, the operating company for Spotted Hawk Development, LLC. SHD is in charge of the operation and production of the well.
