DELEGATION ANNOUNCES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS FOR NORTH DAKOTA TRIBES

Organizations will use funding to promote lending and improve community financial services

Washington – U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced that the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) has awarded nearly $250,000 in technical assistance grants to help financial development efforts for the Standing Rock Sioux and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota.

The Native American CDFI Fund supports expanding the capacity of Native American financial institutions to provide capital, credit and financial services to their community members who often face barriers in accessing those resources.

“These grants will directly help our Native American communities strengthen the financial services they can offer,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “By funding technical assistance, staff training and small business loans, these grants will help some of our state’s underserved and economically distressed residents access more opportunities for economic growth and stability.”

The Standing Rock Business Equity Loan Fund plans to use its $123,379 technical assistance award to support staff training and technical assistance, as it works toward creating a community development financial institution that will provide micro and small business lending and development services to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

The Turtle Mountain Housing Authority, which serves the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, will use its $126,262 award to provide funding for microloans, small business loans, home rehabilitation loans and credit builder loans.
