Nine Elder homes opened in New Town

On Monday, nine elder homes of 28 houses were opened in New Town west of Northern Lights.  The houses are similar to assisted living homes.  The houses are sit side-by-side with a hall dividing them.  As you can see by the photos, they have a living room and kitchen.  The kitchen has a dishwasher, stove and refrigerator with a freezer at the bottom making it easy for anyone in a wheel chair to get to the freezer.  There are one or two bedrooms with walk-in closets.  The bathrooms are handicap accessible with elevated toilets, showers where you sit while showering if you are unsteady, both have hand bars for safety.  Next to the shower, a washer and dryer is provided.

There is a large garage with a small patio for outdoor activities.  In the center of the row of houses is a large room that will be used for meetings where a television will sit.  A small kitchen is on one side of the center room.  There will be staff on hand during the day for help. All door knobs are for easy opening for handicap or elders.

Elders who attended the move in where pleased and said the houses were beyond what they expected.

It is planned that nine more will move in sometime in March.
