Career field see more than 150 students at Northern Lights

By Dorreen Yellow Bird, Press Secretary, TAT

High school students from Mandaree and New Town looked into health careers at the Northern Lights on Wednesday.  One of the purposes of the conference, said Lisa Redford, director of planning and grants, is to recruit young people into the health fields but specifically to fill the EMT and EMS position in this area.  Currently, there is only EMT on duty in New Town.

The organizations represented were:  CHR program, Diabetes, Holistic Wellness, Circle of Life, FBCC nursing program, Sources of Strength, Awattii Wellness Center and Mental education and mental health education.

FBCC is in the process of having EMS and Structure Fires classes, Redford said.  The classes will probably be held in early January and free.

For more information about those classes, you can call FBCC 627-4738 or O’Brian Baker.
