Press Release Oil and gas meeting provides
information to allottees and community By Dorreen
Yellow Bird, Press Secretary for TAT The 37th oil and gas information
meeting of the Three Affiliated Tribes held April 26 at the Four Bears Casino
brought together not only allottees, but pipeline companies, industry, BIA, BLM
and land owners associations for updates and discussion. The meeting
was put together and hosted by the Three Affiliated tribes. The Awa Nuxbaaga Association, a mineral and
landowners association co-hosted. The
Four Bears Casino provided lunch, BIA provided meeting space and TAT provided
snacks and coffee. This was one
in a long line of meetings that provided information to tribal members, but the
first co-hosted by a landowner association.
Other informational meetings were held in Bismarck, Fargo, Williston,
North Dakota; Minneapolis, Minnesota and Billings, Montana. The tribe also provided more than one
meetings in all segments each year. “We are
trying to include everyone,” said Marcus Levings, chairman of the Three
Affiliated tribal. It’s the tribe’s
purpose to be transparent and keep the membership informed and updated, he
added. New technology gave the tribe the
ability to reach oil in the Bakken.
Although it has brought new wealth to the tribe, it has also brought
problems with road congestion, a housing shortage and other related problems. The tribe,
Chairman Levings said, is working hard to solve some of the problems as well as
keeping the membership informed on what is happened. “The Bakken
oil is good for the reservation and we will see more benefits in the future,”
the Chairman said. |
