DELEGATION ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $10 MILLION IN HOUSING ASSISTANCE FOR NORTH DAKOTA TRIBES (WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved more than $10 million in housing assistance to the Trenton Indian Housing Authority, the Turtle Mountain Housing Authority and the Spirit Lake Housing Authority. The federal funding comes in the form of an Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG). These funds will be used for a variety of affordable housing activities, including construction of new housing or rehabilitation of current housing, maintaining low-income housing programs, operating assistance, management for low-income housing, and crime prevention safety. The Turtle Mountain Housing Authority will receive $7,476,341; the Trenton Indian Housing Authority will receive $476,367; and the Spirit Lake Housing Authority will receive $2,616,105. “Affordable housing is essential to both economic development and social stability, and this funding will help these tribes offer more opportunities to their communities,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “Housing on many reservations is fundamentally inadequate. We’re glad these organizations are receiving the assistance they need and deserve.” -END- |
