White Shield Pow Wow a success

The 2010 White Shield Celebration is now history.  In three days of celebration the weather was exceptional and there was a large turn-out.  There were about 256 dancers and 22 drums registered for competition.

Highlights of celebration were Fox Reunion and Mini Pow Wow on Thursday, Lower Brule tribe’s visit on Friday, specials and contest dancing throughout three days. 

Members of the Lower Brule tribe visited the Sahnish at White Shield on Friday, July 9^th.    According to the Sahnish, they wanted to thank the Lower Brule people for taking care of Sahnish artifacts and earth lodge rings.  They also are thankful to this tribe for recognizing the Sahnish people who lived there before their coming.  The Sahnish have been invited to Lower Brule three times for cultural ceremonies.

On Sunday, new officers for the 2011 celebration committee were announced.   The following is the list:  President, Clair Fox, (son of Keith Fox); Vice President Natalie Minafore (daughter of Gloria Fox Branan); Treasurer, Izetta Hopkins; Secretary Loretta Meredith; Drum Keeper, Piper Fox (daughter of Shannon and Clover Fox); and Flag Bearer, Clement Packineau.
