White Shield
convenience store resumes services By Dorreen Yellow Bird, Press Secretary The renamed and restocked convenience store at White Shield opened their doors for business just in time for the White Shield Celebration. They are now called the White Shield Community Store, but said Leone White, community secretary and person on duty at the store, they might change that name later. The store is being managed by the White Shield Community Board. Board consists of Bernard White, President; Loie White Bear, Treasurer; Leone White, Secretary; Board members: Dewey Hosie, Rainie White and Frank Felix. People wanted them to open the store, White said, because when they want gas, it means driving to Garrison. They aren’t fully stocked right now, just the essentials until things get going. They took a proposal to the tribal council and got $37,000 to get gas and some supplies to open the store. Before we could open the store, we had to clean it and get everything changed over to us, White said. The store belongs to the community and tribal employees will be working here in shifts. The store will probably have the Grand Opening in September, said White. |
