Tribal Business Council of TAT
Special Meeting held on January 24, 2002--Continued

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT REQUESTS CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SOLID WASTE PIT
The Tribal Business Council took action to construct a new Solid Waste Pit for the Three Affiliated Tribes. The current solid waste site is filled to capacity and the Natural Resource Administrators is requesting to construct a new pit, either in the current site or a new site altogether. Both sites need a soils test and site approval.  The current location is 1/4 mile to 1 1/2  miles from eighteen (18) established family dwellings with young children and elders.
Therefore the Tribal Business Council is looking at a site west of the Blue Buttes as an Alternate Site. Such site is 2 miles away from the closest residential dwelling area, however the soil testing must be done in order to ensure that the ground is sustainable and that it has a clay base.
Therefore, if need be, I offered the clay hill that was excavated from the 36 Apartment site in Drags Wolf Village as fill for the clay base needed for such solid waste pits. There is an easy 125,000 cubic yards of the clay material.
TRIBAL MEMBERS NOMINATED FOR THE 44TH GRAMMY AWARDS FOR THE BEST NATIVE AMERICAN MUSIC CATEGORY
The Tribal Business Council approved the funding of the financial request of $1,000 for each Mr. Jon "Poncho" Brady and Mrs. Jennifer Young Bear Hamilton. The two enrolled members submitted the following written letter in part:
"Honorable Council Members,
A few days ago we received news that was hard to believe. The drum group we sing with--Young Bird Singers-has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Native American Music Album Category. Although this is the 44th year for the annual award show that recognizes music throughout the country, this is the second year for the Best Native American Music Category. …We are requesting your financial assistance for our travel expenses. A budget is attached for your review…The Grammy Award Show will be televised on February 27, 2002, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California….We will send you CDs and cassette tapes of the nominated album "Change of Life".
In closing we ask not only for your financial assistance but also for your prayers so that we can continue to be successful in our lives and shed favorable light on our family, home reservation and tribes. Respectively, Jennifer Young Bear Hamilton and Jon G. Brady."
