NATURAL
RESOURCES DEPARTMENT REQUESTS CONSTRUCTION OF
A NEW SOLID WASTE PIT
The
Tribal Business Council took action to construct
a new Solid Waste Pit for the Three Affiliated
Tribes. The current solid waste site is filled
to capacity and the Natural Resource Administrators
is requesting to construct a new pit, either in
the current site or a new site altogether. Both
sites need a soils test and site approval.
The current location is 1/4 mile to 1 1/2
miles from eighteen (18) established family dwellings
with young children and elders.
Therefore the Tribal Business Council is looking
at a site west of the Blue Buttes as an Alternate
Site. Such site is 2 miles away from the closest
residential dwelling area, however the soil testing
must be done in order to ensure that the ground
is sustainable and that it has a clay base.
Therefore, if need be, I offered the clay hill
that was excavated from the 36 Apartment site
in Drags Wolf Village as fill for the clay base
needed for such solid waste pits. There is an
easy 125,000 cubic yards of the clay material.
