Purchase
of Emergency Management Sirens for
Four Bears Segment Approved
The Tribal
Business Council had information reported by Mr.
Clifton Whitman, Emergency Management of TAT,
that there was the immediate need for Sirens for
emergency situations in the Segments of Four Bears,
White Shield, Twin Buttes and Mandaree. Therefore
the Tribal Business Council took formal action
to approve the purchase of (4) four Siren Systems
within the Segments for safety purposes in case
of emergencies such as tornadoes, storms, fires
etc, within the Fort Berthold Reservation.

Education
Assistance for School Years 2001-2002 Approved
at the August 14, 2001 Meeting.
- Transportation
Assistance; pursuant
to Resolution #01-204-MWJR. The Tribal Business
Council approves Grants for enrolled members
for transportation expenses for the amounts
of $150 Out of State, $100 In State and $50
for the Fort Berthold Community College to be
administered by the Voc-Education and Higher
Education Programs.
- JTAC--Unmet
Need Education Grants;
pursuant to Resolution #01-205-MWJR. The
Tribal Business Council approved the amount
of $150,000 for the Higher Education Unmet Need
for Fall of SY-01 and $100,000 for the Employment
and Training (477) Unmet Need for Fall SY-01.
- Summer
2001 School Year;
The Tribal Business Council Approved Summer
2001 Education Funding for un-met need for the
amount of $25,000 for Higher Ed and $10,000
for Voc-Ed (477).

The Tribal Business Council approved the Tribal
Proclamation Dated August 14, 2001; which states
in part:
"Whereas, Two Centuries ago, the Mandan Hidatsa
and Arikara Nations provided invaluable assistance
to the Lewis and Clark Expedition, most importantly,
information on the lay of the land all the way to
the Rocky Mountains and beyond as well as food supplies;
and
...Whereas, The Hidatsa origin of Sakakawea told
by Chief Bulls Eye published in the Van Hook Reporter
in April 1925 is an excellent recording of our oral
tradition deserving due consideration; and
...Whereas, It is the duty and responsibility of
the Tribal Business Council of the Mandan Hidatsa
and Arikara Nation to assert and uphold the history,
culture and traditions of their membership in order
to strengthen their cultural identity;…
