Sherry Turner-Lonefight
Councilwoman Tuner-Lone Fight represents the people within the West Segment Community for the Tribal Business Council of the MHA Nation. She was raised in a home where Hidatsa was her first language her given Indian name is “Iihsha Wia” *Teeth Woman” her given English name is Gladys Sherry Turner-Lone Fight. She is the wife of Ted Lone Fight III, together they raised four daughters and four sons and a niece and nephew, and blessed with nineteen grandchildren with a lot of extended family all of whom are very precious to her. She is the daughter of Tillie Mae Turner-Lone Fight and stepfather Nathan Lone Fight. She belongs to the a-wa-xhe (Dripping Dirt Clan) she is a child of the ciicga (Prairie Chicken Clan). Her maternal grandparents are the late Paul Turner Sr., and Gladys Bassett-Turner. Her uncle Frank White Owl Sr., & Auntie/mom’s Nina Turner-White Owl, & Rebekah Turner-Canyon have been and are big part of her life. Later in her life Mike Lincoln Sr., & Victoria Morsette-Lincoln took her into their family as their own and adopted her.
An enrolled member of the MHA Nation, Sherry is a lifelong member of the Mandaree community. She is a kind hearted, caring and a hard-working woman, who was raised with our Hidatsa culture and traditions. She was raised with high expectations of our; morals, values, good work ethics, honesty and integrity. Sherry is a very well-respected woman.
She dedicated fourteen years to our children as an Educator for the Mandaree School, due to medical issues and with a heavy heart, she resigned from her position as a High School teacher. At that time during her resignation, she took care of her tender elderly aged mother and her paraplegic son’s needs, who have both since passed on to the Spirit world.
Sherry is the mother of four daughters and three sons and blessed with nineteen grandchildren with a lot of extended family all of whom are very precious to her.
Today, she resides east of Mandaree on their ranch with her husband and family, they all enjoy a lot of activities with their children and grandchildren. She was recently elected to serve on the Tribal Business Council as our West Segment Representative. Cell 701.421.9820
