Presenting At Tribal Business Council Meetings & Committees 

  • PREPARE: Before the meeting, check the online agenda (Records Office) to where you fall on the agenda. If you have been inadvertently left off the agenda, speak to the Executive Secretary before the meeting starts.

  • VISUAL AIDS: If you have a digital presentation, bring it with you on a flash drive (PC format) preferably in PowerPoint or PDF format.  Present your presentation to the Records Manager seated to the left of the Tribal Business Council or email before the meeting. The Council Chambers is equipped to present most audio & video such as internet video or common video formats.

  • HAND-OUTS: If you have hand-outs, please have at least 8 copies. Each council member (7), the Records Office (1). In some instances the Lead Attorney & CEO may also request copies.

  • RESOLUTIONS: Presenters bringing up resolutions should provide the draft resolution. All resolution must undergo Legal review and should be sent to the Legal Dept. 5 days in advance. A resolution template is available on the previous page.

  • LOCATION: The Tribal Council Chambers is located at the south entrance of the the Tribal Administration Building. The entrance is handicap accessible.

  • SEATING: Seating is available in the chambers (65 capacity) and in the entry area.

  • PRESENTING: The agenda item and or name of the presenter will be announced in the Chambers and the Sergeant of Arms will announce the item outside the Chambers. If your are not present when your name or item is called up your item will be deferred to the next meeting. Items are allowed (3) deferrals at which time the item will be removed from the agenda or returned to Committee.

    • State your name clearly for the record, and indicate any related professional affiliation "My name is ..............". State the purpose of your address, "I would like to ...............". Speak within the time allotted, and ensure the information you provide is related to the item on the Agenda. "This concludes my comments Chairman", this advises Council that you are finished your presentation.

    • Speak toward the microphone (insure that the green light is on) and keep a distance of about a foot away from the microphone.

    • When speaking to Council, use “Chairman”, "Chairman Fox" to directly address the Council member and "Councilman" or “Councilwoman, followed by their last name when addressing a Council member.

    • Speakers usually get up to 10 minutes to speak, but this is at the discretion of the meeting chair.
